Comments from the volunteer staff

*Akiko Ueno: Sophomore, Tokyo Zokei University

It was great that I was able to participate Green Map Project. By walking around the Yamanote Line neighborhood extensively, I was able to find, and feel many things. I realized that “walking” is really fun to do. It was also great that I could find many good restaurants and interesting graffiti when I walked around the stations.
The volunteer staff I worked with – they were great! Production of the exhibition, the Green Map boxes, and the website – everything was made by the staff! The production process was a really tough one but everyone participated enthusiastically so everything worked out! Every staff’s commitment led to an awesome Green Map. I was extremely fortunate that I could collaborate with you guys!

*Yasuko Fujii: Sophomore, Tokyo Zokei University
The most important thing that I learned from this Green Map Project is, “The importance of participant’s connections.” In the beginning, all the information was scattered and kept on each person’s memory, but once everyone brought it together, it became a chunk of information and ended up with an impressive exhibition material. If the collaboration and unification of the staff can be exhibited, it will be as great as the Green Map exhibition.
Just like Yamanote Line stations’ 29 neighborhoods are connected with the same rail, we - the staff, and Green Map are the product of each staff’s connected mind. By looking at the final products and the staff’s accomplished faces, I was able to fully realize the real power of the collaboration. This staff connection will be my greatest asset, and I hope every staff can map the new connection in the future.

*Yoko Takiguchi: Junior, Tokyo Zokei University
It was great fun!
The (staff’s) connection and interaction were really important! I also wanted to do the fieldwork! A video documentation was quite a lonely work! (Well, maybe just this time.) It was unfortunate that I did not capture the production process on the tape. I wish I committed deeply in the project from the earlier stage so I could record everything!
It was fun! I wish I could do something together again. I thought the concept of Green Map is really interesting. But I think people can realize the greatness of Green Map by participating it, rather than just seeing it. Wendy was great! Her seminar was really good too! Green Map is awesome! No wonder Green Map Projects are carried out all over the word! Great idea!

*Hisako Nakano: Sophomore, Musashino Art University
By participating this project, I realized the importance of the commitment and collaboration within the staff members. This experience was a striking one and it is going to be my greatest asset. The best – best of the best thing about the project was that I was able to meet, work, and get to know with the project member. Through this commitment, I could gain something that stimulates my creativity, and understood the source of the stimulation mainly came from the peers.
Even after the projects, I have a strong desire to be friends with them and I definitely will. In the future, there will be many other meets and I am going to try my best to make every meet a valuable one. It is hard to express how I felt through the project but I must be one of the happiest guys around because I could get to know the greatest staff! I have to give a shout out to the hard days through the production and the time I spent with my greatest friends!

*Masahiro Miyake: Junior, Tokyo Zokei University
I cannot easily and simply express the things that I gained from the project, but I think the project member, and the project team’s commitment are more important than the project itself. I decided to get involved in the project because the project itself seemed really fascinating, but the Green Map exhibition was not the final product for me. Around that time, I began to have an interest in management. I was able to grasp what it takes to complete a project – human power, cost, and time. Especially, the importance of the human power – I have never realized how important this is. Obviously, the cost, and time are really important factors in the life but everything comes down to the human being (power.) In this project, the existence of female staff really stood out. I found out that the existence of female acts as smoother in a male-dominated society. This experience is going to be a great hint for me when it comes to the time I manage.
*Haruna Igarashi: Freshman, Jyoshi Bijyutu University
By participating the project and carried out the fieldwork, I was able to find many things that I did not notice before. Also, it was great to get to know all the staff! It was really cool that I participated Green Map Project!
*Miho Negishi: Freshman, Jyoshi Bijyutu University
I participated the project because one of my friends from the college introduced it. In the beginning, I was planning to commit lightly but after working on it for a while, I got hooked up with the project! By carrying out the fieldwork, I could discover many spots (good and bad) and their history. The interactions with the local resident were one of the fascinating experiences. Through the project, I gained so many things and had fun and valuable days!

*Aya Yoshida: Freshman, Musashino Art University

In the beginning, I was not that motivated to the project. But soon after the project began, I was assigned to Harajyuku station and the Green Map production team – ended up visiting the production offices in Ebisu and Kaminoge (Tama Art University) everyday.
Through the fieldwork, I was able to discover another face of Harajyuku. If the time allows in the future, I want explore more and re-discover again. The production work was really tough because of the deadline, but such lifestyle – meeting the project member everyday - like a family, was extremely fun! (Well, I was late many times….)
It was only a 2.5 months long project but I felt many thing, made many friends, and lots of memories! Love you all!

*Souji Tominaga: Sophomore, Tokyo Zokei University

When I first heard the project I did not quite understand what Green Map is, but there was an opportunity to get involved so I decided give a shot, without thinking too much about the concept.
After completing the project, I still do not think that I fully grasped the idea of Green Map. But one thing I can say is that it was the busiest, most joyful, most valuable, and most accomplished time of my whole life. Personally, I like to think about the other people that I work with so I was always wondering, “What is the best working environment? What can be done to make things easier?” and so on. Without having enough time to think about it, I was assigned to one of the most responsible duty. This experience was something that allowed me to learn and exposed to many things.
Through the project, I was able to learn, experience, and understand many things – exposure to the real business world, communication methods to build up the trustable relationship within a team, discussions to lead one solution as a team, correct allocation of human resource, problem solving skill, and friends. Green Map is a life-long communication tool!

I have something to say to be joining in Green map project - so much fun! I’m in kids’ room and go on with this works for exhibition. I wanted to create display space of characteristically kids is different from another room. I absolutely wanted to do `kids’ is in the center of display. We always made trouble for a preparation term but had fun everyday. The time everyone laughing for fun is dear to me. I’ve learned that difficult to tell my thinking important to discuss. I also have got important things for my works in the future. The most happiness thing is need less to say I found partner in perfect harmony who is always with me in the kids’ room. Thanks a lot!
