Today, thanks to technological developments, it is so much easier for anyone to edit moving images. And moving image culture is one of the most interesting things going on in today's Tokyo art scene. Artists express their worlds with subtle wit, utilizing a high level of visual literacy.
Even better, these distinctive works are garnering attention from all over the world. In this exhibition, participating artists come from a variety of visual backgrounds: film industry, street culture, club culture, art scene, animation, and the world of graphics. We plan to show all genres of this constantly evolving moving image culture. To make use of the different expressions of each work, we needed to create a new space (as opposed to a TV, theater, museum, or club setting) in which the viewer could have a completely new experience. In the exhibition "URBANLENZ", we have prepared the highest quality visual/sound system for the optimal presentation environment. We also set up "Vroom," a proposed space suitable for announcing works which go beyond conventional media. It was enclosed by four huge translucent screens and carpeted with real, living Kentucky bluegrass. The space was constituted so that visitors could experience each image from different angles, in a relaxed way.
